Land & Timber Holdings

RoyOMartin currently owns approximately 580,000 acres of highly productive and well-managed timberland in 32 parishes in Louisiana.  The ownership consists of 150,000 acres of natural bottomland hardwood; 60,000 acres of natural upland mixed pine/hardwood forests; and 61,000 acres set aside in streamside management zones, habitat retention zones or high conservation value forests.  The remaining 299,000 acres are under high yield plantation management.

Nearly 60% of the raw materials consumed in RoyOMartin’s manufacturing plants are produced from these company lands.  High quality pine logs are used for plywood production at our Chopin Plywood Plant.  Pine pulpwood is converted at our OSB Plant in Oakdale.  Pine poles are used by our pole peeling and treating facility in Pineville.

ROM’s management of this timberland asset has been certified by the Forest Stewardship Council™ since 2002.  This certification verifies that ROM’s timberland management practices are consistent with the tenets of FSC® in regard to social, environmental, ecological and economic responsibilities.  An annual audit is conducted by representatives of the Forest Stewardship Council™ to ensure ongoing compliance.  As evidenced by our certification, RoyOMartin forests are being managed in a sustainable and environmentally sensitive manner.  Practicing sustainable forestry is important to all of us because this helps to ensure that we will be able to provide the products needed by our communities for years to come.  RoyOMartin will plant nearly 11 million trees to regenerate 19,970 acres of new forests this year – an important step in our sustainable forest management.  Our timberlands are living proof that forests can be economically viable, sustainably managed and provide wildlife habitat, clean water and recreation opportunities for local communities for generations to come.
